Meet Justin Smith

Justin Smith is the farmer/winemaker of Saxum Vineyards which he and his wife, Heather MacCuish Smith, established in 2002. They produce exceptional wines from their family estate- James Berry Vineyard, planted by Justin’s parents Pebble and Terry Smith in 1980, along with a handful of select vineyard sites, all within a stone’s throw of their winery. Justin focuses on farming in an uncompromising way. Never using pesticides, applying organic and no-till practices, keeping yields low, picking fruit at the peak of maturity, and using a minimalist approach in the cellar. Justin believes this approach results in the preservation of the texture, natural acidity, and ripe flavor of the fruit in bottle for decades to come.
